Sharpen Your Speaking Skills in a Friendly, Supportive Environment

Toastmasters International is an educational nonprofit organization with clubs worldwide where men and women develop communication and leadership skills in a mutually supportive environment. Our club follows the general format of Toastmasters International's recommendations.

During our regular club meetings, members learn to give speeches, evaluate each other's communications, speak off-the-cuff and conduct productive meetings. By rotating roles, we all become proficient in these areas and more.

We recognize success in most jobs requires communication skills. We strive to help each other sharpen our communication skills through better speaking, better listening and better thinking on our feet.

Members in our club and other surrounding clubs join for different reasons. Some want to prepare for an upcoming speech. Others are tired of being shy and nervous in social situations. Still others are anticipating interview situations where some impromptu speaking may be required.

Everyone can  benefit from the Toastmasters experience.

How Toastmasters works.

  • Your improved presentation skills will win you the respect and admiration of your colleagues and employees - and make them wonder what you did to change!

  • Leadership skills acquired through participation in Toastmasters will increase your management potential.

Increased ability to motivate and persuade will make you more effective as a supervisor or manager.

  • Improved listening skills will enable you to be a better problem-solver.

How The Program Works

  • When you join a local club, you will receive a New Member Kit. The kit features a copy of the basic Communication and Leadership manual, general orientation materials and information regarding skill improvement in areas such as speech evaluation and the use of gestures.

The basic Communication and Leadership program manual is designed for a beginning Toastmaster to master a skill, build upon that skill, acquire new skills, and continually build. Typically, a new Toastmaster may take up to a year to progress through all the assignments. Advanced manuals are available for Toastmasters who have completed the basic C & L manual.

  • During the meeting's Table Topics session, you will learn to think on your feet by delivering short impromptu speeches, lasting one to two minutes.

  • After giving a prepared speech, you will receive a constructive written and oral  speech evaluation. This process identifies your strengths and provides valuable insight into problem areas.

  • Workshop style Success/Leadership programs are also available, offering opportunities for further skill development in areas such as leadership, public speaking and conducting business meetings. These programs are especially effective as in-house training and can be tailored to meet the needs of your company.
